Job Description:

We are seeking experienced Inpatient Medical Coders with strong trauma and academic medical center backgrounds. This role is responsible for reviewing inpatient medical records, assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, ensuring compliance with coding regulations, and collaborating with clinical teams to support documentation integrity and reimbursement accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze inpatient records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
• Review documentation for coding completeness and regulatory compliance.
• Abstract and enter required clinical and demographic data into designated systems.
• Assign POA indicators, discharge statuses, and other coding-related elements.
• Communicate with providers regarding documentation clarification when necessary.
• Partner with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and Revenue Cycle teams to resolve coding and documentation concerns.
• Maintain established productivity and quality benchmarks.
• Stay current on coding standards, updates, and credentialing requirements.

Qualifications:

• Active CCS, RHIT, RHIA
• Minimum of 3 years of recent inpatient coding experience.
• Recent experience coding complex cases within large academic medical centers or high-acuity trauma hospitals.
• Experience coding at facilities with approximately 500+ beds required.
• Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS guidelines.
• Hands-on experience with Epic and Solventum platforms required.
• Ability to successfully complete a coding assessment during the hiring process.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to coding accuracy.
